CRAFTSMAN DOORWAY TRANSFORMATION
When I first visited this Craftsman home, the remodel was just beginning. The only fixed element was the chosen wallpaper, House of Hackney’s Plantasia in sienna, and everything else was open. This trust gave me the freedom to design a pair of sidelights that could speak directly to the paper, extending its lush, organic patterns into glass and light. More importantly, it allowed me to create an entryway that was befitting the couple that lived there.
The palette was carefully built from Oceanside, Wissmach, and Bullseye glass. By blending opaque and transparent glass with varying textures, the sidelights shift with time, radiant and airy in the day, then layered and luminous at night. They not only anchor the entry, but also establish a dialogue between architecture, decoration, and atmosphere.
This doorway became the beginning of a larger creative journey, and it remains a reminder of how much possibility lives in the simplest of spaces.
