TURNING 50

December was marked by deep exploration in the studio. I made a commitment to myself that the next decade will be shaped by going even further into my studies and practice. For those who have followed along over the past few years, you have witnessed a real transformation in how and what I create.

Below is a glimpse into the work I committed to this month alone, reflecting an intentional expansion across materials, scale, and process. Fused glass dishes made from studio castoffs, conceived as functional objets d'art for the table. A watercolor pet portrait created for a dear friend. A work in progress begun at Pilchuck. Time finally carved out to develop the dimensional work I had been aiming toward, which will be released to subscribers first next year. And a quick in situ view of a stained glass window for an ongoing project in Encinitas.

This year also held space for reflection. I spent time considering what defined my forties and what I want to carry into my fifties, and what I am ready to leave behind. A gradual peeling back to understand what truly fuels my work, my creative life, and how I want to continue contributing to the world around me.

The message that kept returning was limitless expansion. Pushing further, experimenting with the unfamiliar, the colorful, and the unknown, and returning to a model that allows for small, medium, and large work to coexist. A practice that remains accessible while continuing to support large-scale residential and commercial commissions.

The desire to stay connected remains, and I am deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, and trust you have shared with me along the way.
